Joys of Motherhood - Stories from Real Women

Published on Topic: Parenting

A recent SheByShe parenting survey revealed women believe it is much more challenging to be a mother today than when they were raised.  Finding time to be a good parent, protecting children from a dangerous world and an over-saturated, salacious entertainment industry are some of the top challenges for mothers today.  Still, women continue to celebrate the joys of motherhood.

Mothers today bask in small, everyday accomplishments and simple smiles from their children, as well as the heartwarming glory of seeing children successfully step into the world of adults.

Here are real women’s words about the blessedness of being a mom:

  • The joy is in the everyday interactions - enjoying their sense of humor, sharing personal jokes that only make our family laugh, seeing them make adjustments for the sake of someone else.  There has not been one big moment of joy, but lots of little priceless moments.

  • Watching my babies grow and knowing I have done a good job.

  • Having a healthy, happy, balanced, considerate and loving daughter who is now evolving into a successful adult.

  • The greatest joy I have is seeing my son overcome challenges. I'm not talking about the milestones that kids reach at the appropriate developmental age.  It's the things that he works and works at to finally master even though that milestone ship has come and gone.  We worked for months on jumping. Yes, jumping gave us trouble, but the first time he did it, that smile was priceless.

  • Loving someone completely, wholly, and unconditionally. Knowing that every time I see them smile or laugh or giggle that my heart is being filled with yet another ounce of love until it is forced to expand and grow and achieve goals I never thought possible. There's a reason why the Prophet Muhammad said that heaven is at the feet of your mothers, because heaven truly is at the feet of those who endure the most pain, but answer with the most love.

  • Playing and exploring with my small boy

  • Just the fact that she is here, and she is mine

  • Hearing my son call me 'mommy' for the first time

  • Having these two beautiful little people to love and raise. They are truly amazing and I don't know how I wasn't ever a mom!

  • Watching my kids learn.  It makes everything old new again.

  • Unconditional love

  • When she does something new, learns something or just feels good about herself.

  • Being there for my kids during the good and the not so good times.

  • When they get what they want for xmas and birthdays

  • Everything was a joy. There was no single moment. One was good at schoolwork. Another was good at sports and the last was a great socializer.  They all made me laugh and smile and cry at one time or another.

  • Watching them grow and seeing the world through there eyes--with so much excitement and curiosity!

  • Seeing my daughters as independent, happy, loving and successful adults.
